Choosing to Change

“The 3 C’s in life: Choice, Chance, Change. You must make the choice, to take the chance, if you want anything in life to change.”—Unknown

“Therefore we do not lose heart. Though outwardly we are wasting away, yet inwardly we are being renewed day by day. 17 For our light and momentary troubles are achieving for us an eternal glory that far outweighs them all. 18 So we fix our eyes not on what is seen, but on what is unseen. For what is seen is temporary, but what is unseen is eternal.” — 2 Corinthians 4:16-18

“You’ve landed now, with legs full of the earth and hair full of that rain that cleansed and renewed and gave you yourself again. You’re now building your world with wiser hands. Worship the storm that dropped you here. It gave you new language.”— Victoria Erickson

There is not one of us who isn’t trying to improve, to change, or to renew in some way. And yet it is likely true that there is also not a single one of us who isn’t filled with doubt that these changes are possible. We all believe in the father above, who says He forgives us for our past and renews us each day, and yet we struggle to believe in ourselves.

What if we could really let go of the troubles regarding the here and now, and put our faith and hope in the eternal? If only we could simply make the choice to forgive ourselves of our past failures and focus on our future that is full.

Take a moment to think about the times in your life where you have fully noticed a change. For me, those times were full of thoughts of what mattered. I was looking to what was unseen: there was not much evidence of the change within sight, but it was still in focus. Most important of all, I knew the act of making the choice to change could overcome any impatience or doubt.

Don’t lose heart. A change is coming.
