I’m sure you can relate to me when I say I sometimes doubt myself and especially my work, wondering what the purpose is, or if I’m contributing to anything. Even if your job is fulfilling, you might ask yourself why you’re spending so much time cleaning or exercising or making dinner when all you want to do is sit and relax for a night.
This bible verse was in my devotion last night and reminded me the point of it all. It reminded me to change my perspective this week in order to put purpose behind my every effort…
“Whatever you do, work heartily, as for the Lord and not for men” — Colossians 3:23
We aren’t working to impress our boss or friends or to make ourselves perfect beings. We are putting passion behind our work because we want to follow His lead, show him our gratitude for every part of our day, and live this life in full, no matter what we’re doing.
That sounds exhausting doesn’t it? But if we trust Him to take care of us, AND we’re listening to what He says is the first step, I think He’ll help us find the energy. And give us the time to rest.
“Study while others are sleeping,
Work while others are loafing.
Prepare while others are playing.
And dream while others are wishing.”
— William Arthur Ward
“Do not ask God to guide your footsteps if you’re not willing to move your feet” — Dale Partridge
